Home remedies for Pyorrhea



Pyorrhea is a very common periodontal disease that affects gums surrounding the roots of the teeth. It leads to inflammation, irritation and pus in gums further resulting in loosening of teeth. Pyorrhea is the primary cause for tooth loss in adults.
Periodontitis, formerly known as pyorrhea, is an advanced stage of gum disease in which the gums and bones that provide support to the teeth become inflamed and infected.It usually happens due to advanced gingivitis, which when left untreated results in long-term accumulation of bacterial plaque and tartar on the teeth.
Pyorrhea is a condition characterized by bleeding gums. Pyorrhea is the cause of an attack of a bacillus upon the gums and teeth. The bacillus thrives and multiplies on the deposits of food that gets accumulated within the gaps of the teeth. The accumulation leads to lack of proper exercise of the gums, which lowers the resistance of the gums. Good oral hygiene, proper brushing of teeth, flossing and scaling are effective ways to prevent pyorrhea.
Pyorrhea is generally caused due to improper brushing or brushing aggressively, not maintaining a good oral hygiene, poor nutrition, lack of resistance of gums, diabetes, high sugar and carbohydrates content in diet, smoking, and too much alcohol consumption.
Symptoms of Pyorrhea:Pus oozing from margins of teeth
Swollen and inflamed gums
Loosened teeth roots.
Sepsis of digestive tract or liver disorders, if pus persists for a longer time.
Some people can have signs of painful, bleeding and swollen gums due to Pyorrhea. There are also chances of gums getting filled with pus and you can notice tooth decay. The last stage in Pyorrhea leads to loosening and falling out of teeth.


Some simple and effective home remedies for treating Pyorrhea;

Lemon:
Lemon is rich in Vitamin C. Lemon strengthens teeth and helps in preventing inflammation of gums. Regular use of lemon is an excellent home remedy for Pyorrhea.

The antiseptic and antibacterial properties of salt can take care of the bacteria that causes periodontitis. Plus, it can reduce inflammation and pain.
Add 2 teaspoons of salt to a glass of lukewarm water. Swish a mouthful of this solution around in your mouth for 1 minute. Spit and do it again. Follow this treatment 2 or 3 times a day.
Another option is to mix a pinch of salt and a little mustard oil to make a paste. After brushing your teeth, rub this mixture on the gums and leave it on for 5 minutes. Then, rinse thoroughly with warm water. Follow this remedy daily in the morning.
Use these remedies daily until your symptoms subside.

Chewing guava leaves 

or unripe guava helps in curing bleeding from gums and keeps the teeth healthy. It acts as a teeth tonic due to the high amount of vitamin C. Guava: Unripe guava is rich in Vitamin C and is a styptic agent. Chewing raw guava arrests formation of pus in gums and is an excellent home remedy for Pyorrhea. Chewing tender leaves of guava is also beneficial in treatment of Pyorrhea. Mouthwash made of decoction of guava tree bark helps stop bleeding and discharge of pus in gums
After brushing your teeth, dip a cotton ball in mix of mustard oil and little salt. Rub this over the gums.



Carrot and Spinach juice: 

Juice of raw spinach mixed with equal amount of carrot juice is very effective home cure for Pyorrhea and several other teeth related disorders like bleeding of gums.
Turmeric can easily kill the bacteria present in the gums as well as relieve pain and inflammation. It also promotes oral health.Use turmeric powder to brush your teeth and gums using a soft-bristle toothbrush. Do this 2 times a day for a few weeks.
Alternatively, prepare a gum pack with turmeric to treat periodontitis. Mix a pinch of turmeric powder with a little water or vitamin E oil to make a paste. Apply it on your gums before going to bed. The next morning, rinse your mouth with warm water. Do this once daily for several weeks.

Indian Lilac

Indian lilac, also known as neem, is also very beneficial in getting rid of periodontitis. Its antibacterial properties help keep your gums free from harmful bacteria. Plus, it helps combat bad breath and keeps your gums and teeth healthy.

Extract the juice from a few neem leaves. Apply this juice on the gums and teeth, allow it to sit for 5 minutes and then rinse it off with warm water. Follow this treatment 1 or 2 times daily.
You can also use soft neem twigs to brush your teeth and gums twice daily

Mustard Oil:

Massaging your gums with mustard oil is also effective in treating pyorrhoea. After brushing your teeth, you can take some mustard oil and add a pinch of salt to it. Massage your gums with this mixture with the tip of your forefinger. In case of excess pain in the gums, you can soak an ear bud or cotton ball in this mixture and gently massage your gums.


Onion: 

Onion has a potent bactericidal property which helps fight gum bleeding. Chewing raw onion for a few minutes kills all germs and is an excellent home cure for Pyorrhea.
*An unripe papaya is a rich source of vitamin C, which helps in keeping the teeth healthy and stops bleeding from gums.

*Mix dried and powdered holy basil leaves with mustard oil. Rub this on tooth and gums for relief.
*Grind some pepper till it forms a fine powder and add some salt to it. Massage this mixture onto the gums several times a day to cure pyorrhea.
* Ripe bananas have essential minerals that help in stopping bleeding and treating the pain.
If you have pain in gums, gargling with sesame oil after brushing your teeth in night is very effective.
*Orange has high Vitamin C content and hence is very helpful for tooth problems. Try to rub the skin of orange on teeth and gums.
*Take powder of pomegranate rind mixed with salt and pepper which forms a good dentifrice for bacterial infection.
*Drinking 1 glass of water with 1 tablespoon honey every morning is very good for teeth and gums.
*Lettuce: Leaf of lettuce vegetable should be chewed before every meal. This is very effecting in preventing and curing Pyorrhea.
*Take an orange or lemon peel and rub on the gums for 5 minutes. Repeat this two times a day to stop the bleeding.
*Take a spoonful of pure ghee, add some camphor and mix well to form a paste. Apply this paste over the gums two times a day.

Hydrogen Peroxide


Hydrogen peroxide has antibacterial properties that help kill germs and fight gum disease.

Additionally, it will help whiten your teeth. It is recommended to use food grade, 3 percent hydrogen peroxide solution only.
Prepare a solution with equal parts of hydrogen peroxide and water. Use it to rinse your mouth for a few seconds, and then spit it out.
Another option is to mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda and enough hydrogen peroxide to make a paste. With your fingers, rub your gums and gum line with this paste. Spit it out and rinse your mouth thoroughly.
Follow either treatment only 2 or 3 times a week until you get the desired result. Do not use hydrogen peroxide daily.
*Boil 4 to 5 of cinnamon bark pieces in a vessel of water for about half an hour. Cool down the fluid a bit and strain, and use it for gargling. This is an effective way in treating pyorrhea.
