Home remedies for prostate problems

Men entering midlife commonly experience an enlarged prostate, which can restrict the flow of urine from the bladder and lead to such problems as frequent urination, urine leakage and urinary tract infections.
The prostate is a small, muscular gland (in the shape of a walnut) in the male reproductive system. It surrounds the urethra just below the urinary bladder and adds fluid to semen to allow sperm mobility.
It's a sad fact of growing older for the male species. Most men over the age of 60 (and some in their 50s) develop some symptoms of prostate problems. The three most common disorders are benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a noncancerous enlargement of the prostate; prostatitis, an inflammatory infection; and prostate cancer. BPH is so common that some physicians consider it a normal consequence of aging in males. With age, the cells of the gland begin to multiply, leading to an enlarged prostate. Although the exact cause is unknown, changes in male sex hormones with age may be a factor.
To treat an enlarged prostate, some people use herbs, from flaxseed to stinging nettle to prickly pear cactus. At typical doses, experts say that these plant extracts are probably safe for BPH, or benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Treatment of prostatitis includes a variety of practices that incorporate daily supplements and natural remedies. One of the most widely used holistic cures is cayenne pepper, which is reported to alleviate the symptoms of a swollen prostate quickly. Cayenne is also widely used in the treatment of prostate cancer
.The prostate's main role is to produce an essential portion of the seminal fluid that carries sperm. This walnut-shaped gland located just below a man's bladder starts to kick in near puberty and continues to grow and grow. This enlargement doesn't usually cause symptoms until after age 40, and it usually doesn't cause problems until age 60 or later.
An inflamed or swollen prostate is known as prostatitis; it is common for the prostate gland to become enlarged as a man ages. The medical term for this condition is benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or benign prostatic hypertrophy, and as cells increase they form large nodules that can compress the urethra, obstructing the flow of urine and causing pain. The prostate gland doesn't usually cause problems until later in life - it rarely causes symptoms before age 40. However, more than 50% of men in their sixties and as many as 90% in their seventies and eighties have some symptoms of an enlarged prostate.
Some of the symptoms of BPH are a frequent urge to urinate, increased frequency of urination at night, trouble starting a stream of urine, a weak urine stream, continued dribbling of urine, and a feeling of incomplete bladder emptying.

If left untreated, an enlarged prostate can block the flow of urine out of the bladder, leading to other complications like urinary retention, UTIs, bladder stones, and kidney damage.
An enlarged prostate is problematic because it presses on the urethra, creating difficulties with urination and weakening the bladder. Some of the symptoms of prostate problems include:
difficulty urinating
frequent urination, especially at night
difficulty starting urination
an inability to empty the bladder
a dribble of urine despite the urgent need to urinate
a burning sensation when urinating
uncontrolled dribbling after urination
pain behind the scrotum
painful ejaculation
*Here are some natural remedies for men to treat an enlarged prostate:
Limit beverages in the evening. Don't drink anything for an hour or two before bedtime to avoid middle-of-the-night trips to the toilet.
Limit decongestants or antihistamines. These drugs tighten the band of muscles around the urethra that control urine flow, making it harder to urinate.
Go when you first feel the urge. Waiting too long might overstretch the bladder muscle and cause damage.
Eat pumpkin seeds. The crunchy snacks contain protective compounds called phytosterols, which may be responsible for shrinking the prostate, according to Prevention. They also contain chemicals that may be beneficial for prostate health.

*Make and drink watermelon tea, a beverage the Amish use to flush out the system, according to AgingFit. Enjoy a slice of watermelon and spit the seeds into a cup. When you have one-eighth of a cup of watermelon seeds, put them in a one-pint jar and fill it with boiling water. Let the tea cool, strain it and drink it. Drink one pint of tea every day for 10 days
.

Kegel Exercises

Kegel or pelvic-strengthening exercises can help ease some of the discomforts of enlarged prostate as they help tighten and clench specific pelvic muscles to help control urination.Empty your bladder and lie on the floor with your knees bent and apart. Tighten your pelvic floor muscles for 5 seconds, then relax them for 5 seconds. Repeat 10 to 20 times, 3 or 4 times each day. Pelvic floor muscles are the muscles you use to stop your urine flow.
*Another option is to squeeze the muscles in your anus, then relax your pelvic floor muscles. Do it 10 to 20 times, a few times a day.Regularly perform kegel exercises throughout the day. You can do them after waking up in the morning, at lunchtime, in the evening and before going to bed. Target your pelvic muscles only and avoid tightening the muscles in your stomach, buttocks or thighs. If you are having difficulty locating the pelvic muscles, get help from an expert.

*Prepare a drink made using silk from corn, a remedy Amish men have used for generations. AgingFit suggests, when fresh corn is in season, cut the silk from six ears of corn. Put them in one quart of water, boil it, simmer for 10 minutes, then strain it and drink. Drink three cups a week.
*Learn to eat and enjoy soy foods. Soy-based foods contain phytoestrogens, which are thought to help reduce testosterone production, which is believed to aggravate prostate cancer growth, . The phytoestrogens are thought to limit the growth of blood capillaries that form around tumors of the prostate
Capsules containing garlic extract can be used to treat various conditions, including an enlarged prostate, according to MensHealthReview.org. However, keep in mind that garlic may cause bad breath, heartburn, gas, nausea and diarrhea.
*Schedule bathroom visits. Try to urinate at regular times — such as every four to six hours during the day to "retrain" the bladder. This can be especially useful if you have severe frequency and urgency.
*Keep warm. Colder temperatures can cause urine retention and increase the urgency to urinate.
Organic flaxseed oil 60  ml and organic low fat cottage cheese 250 ml  will get rid of the cancer.

Alpha blockers.

These medications relax bladder neck muscles and muscle fibers in the prostate, making urination easier. Alpha blockers — which include alfuzosin (Uroxatral), doxazosin (Cardura), tamsulosin (Flomax), and silodosin (Rapaflo) — usually work quickly in men with relatively small prostates. Side effects might include dizziness and a harmless condition in which semen goes back into the bladder instead of out the tip of the penis (retrograde ejaculation).
Tadalafil (Cialis). Studies suggest this medication, which is often used to treat erectile dysfunction, can also treat prostate enlargement. However, this medication is not routinely used for BPH and is generally prescribed only to men who also experience erectile dysfunction.

Herbal medicines have proved to be most effective in increasing prostate gland. Even a patient who has been indwelling with a catheter for a long time, gets free of the catheter and starts urinating naturally. It is a panacea for other disorders of the prostate gland (burning urine, dripping urine drop by drop, frequent urination at night, tearing urine). There is no chance of cancer. Regular consumption of foods rich in vitamin-C helps body develop resistance against infectious agents and scavenge harmful, pro-inflammatory free radicals
Recent studies at Agricultural research service (by plant genetics scientist Roy Navarre) suggests that flavonoid antioxidant, quercetinpresent in potatoes has anti-cancer and cardio-protective properties.
Brain functioning and nervous system health

The B6 vitamins in potatoes are critical to maintaining neurological health. Vitamin B6 helps create useful brain chemicals, including serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. This means that eating potatoes may help with depression, stress and even perhaps attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Potatoes' high level of carbohydrates may have some advantages, including helping maintain good levels of glucose in the blood, which is necessary to proper brain functioning. A 1995 study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that modest increases in glucose could help enhance learning and memory. Potassium, which encourages the widening of blood vessels, also helps ensure your brain gets enough blood.

Skin Care:

Vitamin-C and B-complex as well as minerals like potassium, magnesium, phosphorusand zinc are good for the skin. Apart from that, pulp obtained from crushed raw potatoes, mixed with honey, can work well in skin and face packs. This even helps to cure pimples and spots on the skin. Again, this pulp, if applied externally on burns, provides quick relief and faster healing. Smashed potatoes, and even water in which potatoes have been washed, are very good for softening and cleaning skin, especially around the elbows, and the back of the hands.
Digestion:

Since potatoes predominantly contain carbohydrates, they are easy to digest and facilitate digestion. This property makes them a good diet for babies or for those who cannot digest hard food, but need energy. However, remember that eating too many potatoes on a regular basis may cause acidity over time. Potatoes also contain a considerable amount of fiber or roughage, more in raw potato and cold ones than boiled or hot ones. This stimulates peristaltic motion and increased secretion of gastric juices, which eases digestion and prevents conditions like constipation and protects the body from more serious conditions like colorectal cancer. Fiber is also connected with scraping cholesterol out of the arteries and blood vessels, thereby increasing heart health.
Blood pressure

Potatoes may help lower blood pressure for several reasons. Victoria Jarzabkowski, a nutritionist with the Fitness Institute of Texas at The University of Texas at Austin, said that the fiber found in potatoes can help lower cholesterol by binding with cholesterol in the blood. "After it binds, we excrete it," she said.
Potatoes are also a good source of potassium. "All potatoes are potassium rich," Jarzabkowski said. "They have even more potassium than a banana, and a lot of it is found in the [potato's] skin." She noted that the outer potato peel also contains a good deal of fiber. Potassium is a mineral that helps lower blood pressure, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Potassium, too, can help lower blood pressure through its actions as a vasodilator (blood vessel widener). Scientists at the Institute for Food Research have discovered that potatoes contain chemicals called kukoamines, which are associated with lowering blood pressure.

Cancer Prevention:

Certain types of potatoes, particularly red and russet potatoes, contain high levels of flavonoid antioxidants and vitamin A like zeaxanthin and carotenes, they can protect you against many types of cancer. Also, research at the Agricultural Research service has shown that potatoes contain a compound called quercetin, which has been proven to have anti-cancer and anti-tumor properties. Finally, the high levels of vitamin A and C both have antioxidant qualities that can protect your body from the devastating effects of cancer
Rheumatism:

There are two parts to the effect of potatoes on this condition. Vitamins like the calcium and magnesium in potatoes help to provide relief from rheumatism. Also, water obtained from boiling potatoes can relieve the pain and inflammation of rheumatism. However, due to high starch and carbohydrate content, it tends to increase body weight which may have adverse effects on rheumatic people. It is a fine balance, so you must apply it as a helpful approach without consuming the potato itself.
Weight Gain:

Potatoes are primarily made of carbohydrates and contain very little protein. This makes it an ideal diet for those excessively lean or thin people who desperately want to put on weight. The vitamin content includes vitamin-C and B-complex, which also help in proper absorption of carbohydrates. That is one of the reasons that potatoes make up a large part of the diet of sumo wrestlers, as well as many other athletes who need large energy reserves to burn off in order to compete!
Inflammation: Potatoes are very effective in reducing inflammation, both internal and external. Since it is soft, easily digested and has a lot of vitamin-C (a very good antioxidant that repairs tissue wear and tear), potassium and vitamin-B6, it can relieve any inflammation of the intestines and the digestive system. It is a very good dietary element for those who have mouth ulcers as well. Therefore, people who suffer from arthritis and gout can use potatoes for their anti-inflammatory impact, but again, since it can add to weight gain, which exacerbates these conditions, and is commonly eaten with meat and other rich foods that make gout worse, a fine balance must be struck.

Home remedies for cough and cold

The common cold is almost always accompanied by a cough and can be quite an irritating condition to deal with. While, medication can help reduce the symptoms you experience, a cold has no cure and it takes about seven days to resolve. So, instead of loading your body with all those chemicals why not try something natural to beat the discomfort you feel.

Generally speaking, coughing is perfectly normal. A cough can help to keep your throat clear from phlegm and other irritants. When there is a blockage or irritant in your throat or upper air passages, your brain thinks a foreign element is present and tells your body to cough to remove that element. However, sustained coughing can also be symptomatic of a number of conditions.
Coughing can also be due to a viral infection, common cold, flu, and smoking or health problems such as asthma, tuberculosis, and lung cancer.

Some of the symptoms of a cough are itchy throat, chest pain, and congestion. Instead of using over-the-counter cough syrups, you can try some natural cough treatments using readily available ingredients in your kitchen.

A lot of these home remedies have their roots in Ayurveda and you'll find that some of the ingredients like ginger, turmeric and honey have been named in ancient texts as natural healers. Traditional medicine is still being practiced in many of our homes and is a testament to the phrase 'old is gold'.

Garlic tea

A well-known immune system strengthener, garlic shines as an antibacterial and antiviral herb for fighting colds, coughs and the flu. One of the best ways to take advantage of garlic's healing properties is by drinking fresh garlic tea. Sweetened with a little raw honey, it's delicious and helps to heal what ails you. Peel 2 to 3 cloves of fresh garlic and lightly crush them with the side of a wide knife blade. Add them to 2 cups of water and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer for another 15 minutes. Strain the garlic and allow the tea to cool to mouth temperature. Add raw honey, a tiny pinch of cayenne pepper and a squeeze of lemon juice. Drink as much as desired.

Honey is a time-honored remedy for a sore throat. According to a 2007 study, it can also relieve coughs more effectively than over-the-counter medicines that contain dextromethorphan (DM), a cough suppressant.
You can create your own remedy at home by mixing honey with herbal tea, or warm water and lemon. The honey does the soothing, while lemon juice can help with congestion.

Turmeric

Turmeric is rich in curcumin and volatile oils that have a protective as well as therapeutic action in persons suffering from cough and cold. Turmeric can help prevent the infection from worsening. The easiest way to use turmeric is as haldi doodh. To make this drink take a teaspoon of haldi and add it to a glass of milk. Now boil the mixture and drink it while it is still hot. You can add some honey to the mixture too, in order to sweeten the drink and add to its antibacterial and antiviral propertiesYou can also have some turmeric tea to treat the condition. All you need to do is boil 4 cups of water, mix one tablespoon of turmeric powder to it and boil the water. Once done allow it to stand for 10 minutes. Strain the mixture using a fine strainer, and then mix in a little honey and lemon – your medicinal turmeric tea is ready. You can add some tulsi to the tea to make it a better natural remedy

Steam

You can loosen up your stuffy nose if you breathe in some steam. Hold your head over a pot of boiling water and breathe slowly through your nose. But be careful. Don't let the heat burn your nose.
You can also get some relief with a humidifier in your bedroom. Also try to take in some moisture from a hot shower with the door closed.
Blow Your Nose

It's better than sniffling mucus back into your head. But make sure you do it the right way. If you blow hard, you'll send germ-carrying phlegm back into your ear passages, which can lead to an earache.
The best technique? Press a finger over one nostril while you blow gently to clear the other.
*Take a few peppercorns with a little cumin and jaggery. Add a little water and keep boiling the mixture until you get a concentrated decoction. Cool and drink it to help expel the phlegm blocking your airways.

Peppermint leaves and the oil of eucalyptus are both well known for their healing properties. Menthol in peppermint soothes the throat and acts as a decongestant, helping to break down mucus. You can benefit by drinking peppermint tea, or by inhaling peppermint vapors from a steam bath. To make a steam bath, drop three to four drops of peppermint oil mixed for every 150 milliliters (mL) of hot water. Drape a towel over your head, and take deep breaths directly above the water.
Red onion and raw honey cough syrup
*A wonderful home remedy for adults or kids suffering from a cough uses brown cane sugar, raw honey or stevia and red onions to make a soothing and tasty cough syrup. Wash, peel and slice the entire onion horizontally. Starting with the base of the onion, layer the slices in a bowl alternating with layers of raw honey or brown sugar. Stevia powder works well for this home remedy too; however, it is extremely sweet. Continue adding layers of onion and sweetener until the entire onion is reconstructed in the bowl. Cover and allow the sweetened onion to remain in the bowl on your counter for about 12-15 hours or overnight. The next day, there will be about a cup or more of sweet syrup in the bowl. The cough syrup contains a range of nutrients, vitamins and minerals from the onion and the honey to help fight infection and soothe sore throats and quiet a cough. Take a spoonful as needed. Has no onion-y taste.

. Lemon

Lemons can be used in a variety of ways for curing coughs. Lemons have properties that reduce inflammation and also provide a dose of infection-fighting vitamin C.A simple cough syrup can be made by combining two tablespoons of lemon juice and one tablespoon of honey. Drink this healthy syrup several times a day.

Another way to use lemons is to blend lemon juice with a little honey and a pinch of cayenne pepper and then drink it.

Hot Milk with Honey

Hot milk with honey can relieve a dry cough and reduce chest pain you may be experiencing from continuous coughing. For best results, drink it before going to sleep. For added benefits from the analgesic properties of honey, swallow a teaspoon of plain honey on empty stomach. This will help clear the mucus and soothe your throat..

Thyme

Thyme is used by some for respiratory illnesses. One study suggests that the essence extracted from thyme leaves mixed with ivecan help relieve coughing as well as short-term bronchitis. The leaves contain compounds called flavonoids that relax the throat muscles involved in coughing, and also lessen inflammation.

You can make thyme tea at home using two teaspoons of crushed thyme leaves and one cup of boiling water. Cover the cup, steep for 10 minutes, and strain.

Chicken soup antiviral

Chicken soup really does act to knock out a cold or the flu and hasten healing. As long ago as the 12th century, the Jewish physician Maimonides recommended consuming chicken soup to fight colds and flu. Take advantage of the high antioxidant properties and nutrients found in organic vegetables and chicken. Although non-organic chicken soup may relieve some cold symptoms, it also supplies the body with pesticides, growth hormones, herbicides and antibiotics that are not recommended for well being. Go organic all the way and get well quickly.

Home remedies for anaemia

Deficiency of iron is considered to be the major cause of anaemia, which can be rectified by having iron-rich diet. Various other reasons, which are held responsible as a cause of anaemia, are:
While anemia is not a disease in itself, it results mainly from a nutritional deficiency. It can however, be a symptom of other serious illnesses, so recognizing symptoms typically common to anemia can be a real benefit.Anemia is a condition in which your red blood cell count is so low that not enough oxygen is carried to all parts of your body. Imagine that your blood is a river. Traveling on this river are special barges (red blood cells) that carry parcels (oxygen), but each barge carries only a specific amount of oxygen. If you don't have enough of these barges, it's impossible to deliver enough oxygen, and as a result, you'll start to feel weak and tired. A short climb up the stairs may leave you breathless, and even a couple days of rest won't help perk you up. If that describes how you feel, check with your doctor -- it's important to take action as soon as possible to alleviate anemia

There are several reasons for anemia, including pregnancy, heavy blood loss, and dietary deficiencies. Anemia is defined by the World Health Organization as a hemoglobin concentrationbelow 12 g/dl in women and 13 g/dl in men. In case of hemolytic anemia, which is an inherited disease, red blood cells are destroyed as soon as they are manufactured. On the other hand, in case of aplastic anemia, the red blood cells become damaged after their production, which reduces the number of red blood cells in the human body. In addition to this, patients who suffer from kidney failure, rheumatoid arthritis, cancer, and bowel disease might suffer from anemia.
Anaemia is a common condition among Indian women. Described as a condition that comes about due to a drop in the number of red blood cells in a person blood, anaemia is a fairly common occurrence in pregnant women, growing children and women with excessive bleeding during menstruation. While iron supplements do work to treat the condition,
Symptoms of Anemia
Symptoms of more severe anemia include rapid heartbeat, dizziness, headache, ringing in the ears, irritability, pale skin, restless leg syndrome, and confusion. A vitamin B12 or folic acid deficiency may even cause your mouth and tongue to swell. These symptoms may sound scary, but the most common forms of anemia are easily treated, especially if caught early.
Symptoms of mild to moderate anemia:
weakness
fatigue
shortness of breath
Symptoms of moderate to severe anemia:
rapid heartbeat
dizziness
headache
ringing in the ears
pale skin (especially the palms of your hands), pale or bluish fingernails
hair loss
restless leg syndrome
confusion
Symptom specific to severe vitamin B12 or folic acid deficiency anemia:
swelling of the mouth or tongue
Symptoms specific to pernicious anemia:
numbness, tingling
depression and/or irritability,memory loss
The goal for treating anemia is rebuilding the supply of red blood cells in the body. This level can typically be achieved by incorporating different dietary supplements and natural remedies into your everyday routine.

Some of the home remedies for Anemia include eating leafy vegetables, bananas, beetroot, honey, and spinach. Anemia is basically a general term signifying a hemoglobin deficiency. The main function of hemoglobin is to transport oxygen, which means that anemia often results in a lack of essential oxygen to the body’s organs.
